‘Getting Tulu its due recognition is the need of the hour’

Mangalore, Aug 11, 2013: Participants of a meeting held  at the Sri Krishna mandir at Kadri on August 10, Saturday to discuss  the steps need to be taken to get Tulu its due recognition,  strongly opined that the need of the hour was to fight for the inclusion of Tulu in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution and not to demand a separate statehood.

Speaking at the meeting, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, District President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat,  said the need to protect and preserve the language and its script was more important than anything else at the present juncture.

Vijaykumar Kodialbail, noted Tulu playwright who also spoke, informed that there would be a rally in Mangalore on September 7 to mount pressure on the  government to include Tulu in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

The meeting also discussed some burning issues like problems created by UPCL, the proposed Niddodi Thermal power plant and Netravathi river diversion project

Harikrishna Punaroor, former president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat and others were present.
