‘Amar Bolli’ has depicted Koti-Chennaya in poor light, says folk scholar

Mangalore, Sep 6, 2013: Bannanje Babu Amin, folk scholar said that the Yakshagana titled ‘Amar Bolli’ based on the life of Koti Chennaya has not only depicted  the Tulunad folk legends in poor light but also has some misleading information which is condemnable.

Speaking at the press meet held at Press Club on Sep 6, Friday, he said that the book authored by Kodu Pradeep Shetty and published by  Sri Subrahmaya Yaksha Bharathi Kala Koota states that Koti Chennayya were been born in low caste family to  bad parents, but were brought up among good Bunt caste people.

He said  the Brahma Baidarkala Samskritika Pratishtana NS other organizations will stage a protest at Town Hall on September 7, Saturday in  the event of the Yakshagana ‘Amar Bolli’ based on the same  book by  Pradeep Shetty  and presented by Yakshangana, Mangalore,offends the folk legends Koti Chennaya through its dialogues.

He also said that the life of Tulunad folk legends Koti Chennaya has been depicted in stories, novels, plays, Yakshaganas, audio music and films by  litterateurs like Panje Mangesh Rao, Kalmadi Venkat Rao, Bola Chittaranjandas Shetty, Prof Mohan Kotian, Muddhu Moodubelle, Rasika Putthige  including him too.

Babu Amin said that  even  Brahmins, Jains, Gowd Saraswats, Bunts, Billawa and  various Mutts have contributed in their own way for the  establishment of Brahma Baidarkala Garodi.  Chittharanjan K, Premanath K, Chandrashekar Suvarna and Neela M Angara were present at the press meet.
