Manipur girl changes college after harassment by fellow students of home state

Mangaluru, Sept 7, 2023: A first PUC girl student from Manipur who was studying at a private college in Mangaluru, had to change her college after she was allegedly assaulted and harassed by fellow students from her state, at the college hostel.

The girl who had opted science stream with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Home Science, has now got enrolled to a private college near Kodialbail with PCMB combination as other colleges that her family chose for her with her earlier combination did not have hostel facilities.

It is learnt the harassed girl belonged to Manipur Meitei community. Deputy Director of PU Education of Dakshina Kannada said as the harassment took place at the college hostel the Education Department is unable to take action and added that it was upto the district administration to act.

After the girl was harassed and assaulted, her parents had approached the office of the DDPU. The incident reportedly took place two weeks ago when some Manipur girl students of first and second PUC harassed this particular girl and tried to push her into a dust bin.
