Mangaluru, May 18, 2022: The Nursing Services Department of JKSHCH celebrated International Nurses Day on the 12th of May 2022 commemorating the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, The Founder of Modern Nursing.

The 12 days’ celebration was inaugurated on April 30th with the formal function by Prof.(Dr.) Fathima D’silva- Principal Nitte Usha Institue of Nursing, Mrs. Revathi S- Nursing Superintendent- Yenepoya Medical College Hospital, Deralakatte and Major(Dr.) Shivakumar Hiremath- Medical Superintendent- JKSHCH.

As a part of the celebration, many indoor competitions were held between April 30, 2022 and May 11, 2022. Competitions such as poster presentation, waste to wealth, rangoli, drawing, Nurses got talent, cultural, bedside nursing excellence, badminton (individual) and other fun games were organized. Few of the nurses took part in toast master-public speaking session organized by Nitte (DU).

On May 12th, Nurse’s day celebration started with a cultural event at 10.30AM. The theme for the celebration was "NurZcoatZ & colours 2022. Various departments of JKSHCH participated in the cultural event. The Valedictory function was held at 2.30 PM and was preside by the President, Prof. (Dr.) Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice Chancellor, Nitte (DU), Chief Guest, Mrs. Sahila Shridhar-Nursing Superintendent, Kanachur Hospital & Research Centre, Mrs. Sadhana Deshmukh, Staff Development Director-Nitte (DU) and Prof. Sabitha Nayak, Vice-principal- Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences as Guests of Honour. The function started with a prayer dance, followed by a floral tribute to Florence Nightingale and cake cutting. Two Veteran Nurses of JKSHCH, Mrs. Metilda Dsouza and Mrs. Clotilda Machado were felicitated for their extraordinary service. Further, prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions and Five Nurses were awarded the Best Nurse Award, 2021-2022.

Ms. Darryl M S Aranha, In-charge Nursing Superintendent, welcomed the gathering, Mrs. Vickypriya Fernandes, Nurse Educator delivered the Nurses Week Report and Ms. Judy Rodrigues delivered rge Vote of thanks. The program concluded with a skit, performed by nurses, which gave the audiences an insight on life of Florence Nightingale.
