On the district reporting more than 1,000 cases on Friday after more than a month, the DC said that the positivity rate of Dakshina Kannada district has not increased. “Positivity rate of the district is fluctuating between 7% and 9%. Before June 12, the positivity rate of the district was 18% and it has come down to 8.5%. We were conducting an average of 2,500 to 3,000 tests per day. However, on Friday 11,000 tests were conducted and it is in fact a record. We have conducted tests on samples of four days in one day. Hence, there was an increase in the number of positive cases, but the positivity rate has not increased. Hence, there is no need to panic, but follow covid appropriate behaviour,” the DC said.

Stating that the spread of COVID-19 is under control in the district, he said that people need not be apprehensive unnecessarily. But all should cooperate to contain its spread by following COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.

Places of worship will not be reopened in DK for another two weeks

Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner K.V. Rajendra said on Saturday that places of worship in the district will not be reopened for devotees at least for another two weeks.

If anybody drove vehicles for visiting temples like Dharmasthala Manjunatha, Kukke Subrahmanya, and other places, such vehicles will be seized and cases will be booked against them.

The temple managements should also ask devotees to return if they are from faraway places. Additional check posts will be set up in places like Charmadi on the Chikkamagaluru-Mangaluru national highway and Periyashanthi on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway to curb the movement of such vehicles.
