City Police Commissioner appeals to public against installing loan apps

Mangaluru, Jan 12, 2022: City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar has requested public to be cautious and avoid installing loan apps on their mobile phones. The Commissioner’s appeal has come in the backdrop of the suicide of a youth Sushanth Kumar (26) in Suratkal police station limits two days ago, allegedly distressed over financial issues.

There are over 600 such play apps including some China origin apps which  lay down many conditions while installing including securing nude photos of the user, details of contacts, photos, videos etc. Later loans ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 6,000 is issued with a interest of 30 to 60%, the Commissioner said. In case anyone defaults to repay, then they are threatened by stating nude photos wold be released  and also  are shown  fake FIR stating police complaint is lodged, the Commissioner said adding such apps without RBI permit should not be installed.
