Youth arrested for making reel on Tipu Sultan cutout with pro-Pakistan song in Chikkamagaluru

Chikkamagaluru, Aug 25, 2026: Police have arrested a 23-year-old youth for allegedly uploading a social media reel featuring a cutout of Tipu Sultan and a song associated with Pakistan’s Mujahid in connection with Eid Milad celebrations in the city.

A 40-foot cutout of Tipu Sultan was installed at Tipu Nagar ahead of the Eid Milad procession scheduled for Wednesday. A video featuring the cutout was edited with the song and uploaded on Instagram. The video later went viral through the page ‘Chikkamagalur_power_tippuboys’.

The Chikkamagaluru Town Police registered a suo motu case and arrested Roshan. Seven others have also been taken into custody for questioning in connection with the incident.

District Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Dayama said the police had already held peace meetings in the area and issued strict instructions to follow existing rules and practices during religious celebrations.

He said there would be no scope for introducing any new practice or route during the celebrations. The size, location and timing of this year’s Tipu Sultan cutout were the same as in previous years, he added.

The SP said police had identified those involved in creating, circulating and uploading the video as their social media status.

“Strict legal action will be taken if political or communal colour is given to religious festivals,” he said.
