Woman intoxicated, raped in Hubballi; police arrest three

Hubballi, January 12, 2026: Hubballi police have arrested three individuals in connection with the abduction and sexual assault of a 32-year-old woman. According to officials, the woman was allegedly forced to consume alcohol, sexually assaulted, and a video of the assault was circulated on social media.

The survivor, a resident of Haveri district, was admitted to KMCRI Hospital for treatment and later handed over to the Women and Child Welfare Department.

The arrested individuals are Shivanand Kanan and Ganesh Giddannavar of Shivashankar Colony, accused of committing the assault, and Pradeep, who allegedly recorded and shared the videos and photos online.

Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar said the incident took place on the night of January 9.

“The suspects took the woman in an autorickshaw from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Ground near Indi Pump to a forested area near the Leprosy Hospital in Anand Nagar, where the assault occurred. The accused were arrested following the woman’s complaint,” he stated.
