Bengaluru, Jun 3, 2026: With declared assets worth ₹1,413 crore, senior Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar is set to become India’s richest Chief Minister, surpassing the combined wealth of the Chief Ministers of 10 Hindi heartland states, according to the latest election affidavits available in the public domain.

Shivakumar had declared assets worth ₹1,413 crore in his 2023 election affidavit. The value of his holdings is likely to have risen further since then, driven largely by appreciation in the value of agricultural, residential, and commercial lands owned by him, particularly in Bengaluru South district, formerly known as Ramanagara.

Among other southern Chief Ministers, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu ranks second with declared assets of ₹931 crore, while Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has assets worth ₹648 crore. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has declared assets worth ₹30 crore, whereas Kerala Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan has assets valued at ₹6.6 crore.

The figures indicate that Shivakumar’s declared wealth alone is nearly 13 times higher than the combined assets of the Chief Ministers of the 10 Hindi-speaking states.

In May last year, the Karnataka government renamed Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South, a move strongly advocated by Shivakumar in his capacity as Deputy Chief Minister.

Representing the Kanakapura Assembly constituency in Bengaluru South district, Shivakumar had assured residents that the renaming would significantly enhance land values in the region.

According to his election affidavits, Shivakumar owns over 71 acres of agricultural and other land assets in the district, valued at ₹10.37 crore. His brother, former Bengaluru Rural MP D.K. Suresh, has declared ownership of more than 93.97 acres of agricultural and other land in the district, valued at ₹8.35 crore.

Addressing farmers in Bidadi recently, Shivakumar highlighted the impact of the district’s renaming on property values. “After Ramanagara became Bengaluru South, can you tell me how much the value of your lands increased?” he asked.

In response, several farmers reportedly said that land prices had “doubled” and “tripled” since the change.
