New Delhi, Apr 3, 2026: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Thursday represented India at a UK-hosted virtual summit of nearly 30 countries aimed at ensuring safe shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

The meeting came amid Iran’s partial blockade of the strategic waterway, which has significantly disrupted global oil and gas supplies.

At the summit, Misri conveyed India’s position on safeguarding international shipping lanes in the region.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, speaking at his weekly briefing, said the UK had invited multiple nations, including India, for discussions on the Strait of Hormuz, and Misri participated in the talks.

He added that New Delhi is closely monitoring developments related to the West Asia conflict.

“As far as India is concerned, we stand for free and open commercial shipping, and for maritime security in accordance with international law. Ensuring safe and unhindered navigation through the Strait of Hormuz remains a priority,” he said.

Jaiswal noted that India is in touch with Iran and other countries to facilitate the safe transit of its vessels, including those carrying LPG and LNG.

“Over the past few days, six Indian-flagged vessels have safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz. We remain engaged with relevant stakeholders on this issue,” he added.

In recent weeks, India has stepped up diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in West Asia while ensuring the uninterrupted flow of energy supplies through the crucial maritime route.
