
Bengaluru, Nov 14, 2025: Renowned environmentalist and Padma Shri awardee Saalumarada Thimmakka died today at the age of 114, according to sources at Apollo Speciality Hospital, Jayanagar.
Thimmakka had been admitted to the hospital after complaining of weakness and loss of appetite.
Born in 1911, Thimmakka became a symbol of environmental stewardship with her decades-long work of planting and nurturing over 8,000 trees along highways. She had previously been hospitalised in October 2023 for severe respiratory issues and a heart attack, undergoing angioplasty after suffering from bronchial asthma. In January 2024 and December 2024, she faced further health complications related to her age and ongoing respiratory ailments.
Her passing marks the end of an era. Tributes are pouring in from across the nation for her lifetime of selfless service and dedication to nature.
