Srinagar, Apr 1, 2026: An unidentified militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in the Arahama area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Wednesday, officials said.
The operation began on Tuesday evening following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants. A joint team of the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
As the search intensified, militants opened fire, triggering an encounter. Security forces retaliated, killing one militant.
In a post on X, the Army’s Chinar Corps said the cordon was tactically reorganised overnight amid intermittent firing. “Own troops effectively retaliated with a calibrated response, resulting in one terrorist being eliminated. Operation is in progress,” the post said.
Sources said more militants could be hiding in the area, and additional forces have been deployed to tighten the cordon.
Ganderbal, on the outskirts of Srinagar, has largely remained peaceful in recent years with minimal militant activity, making this encounter a rare incident.
The operation was ongoing at the time of filing this report.
