New Delhi, June 21, 2026: The United States and Iran are set to begin a fresh round of negotiations in Switzerland on Sunday, amid a warning from US President Donald Trump that tolls could be imposed on the strategically important Strait of Hormuz if the talks fail.

The US delegation will be led by Vice President JD Vance, accompanied by special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Iran’s delegation is headed by chief negotiator Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, along with senior officials from the security, oil and banking sectors.

Ahead of the talks, Vance expressed hope of making progress on both the Iranian nuclear issue and the Lebanon ceasefire. He said US negotiators already in Switzerland had reported positive developments in the discussions.

Meanwhile, Trump warned that the United States could impose tolls on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz if a final agreement is not reached. In a post on Truth Social, he said no tolls would be imposed during the 60-day ceasefire period, but the US could consider such measures later if negotiations collapse.

The latest round of talks comes amid ongoing efforts to secure a comprehensive agreement between Washington and Tehran and preserve the fragile ceasefire in the region.
