US, Mar 10, 2026: Donald Trump has warned that the United States would respond with far greater force if Iran attempts to halt the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important routes for crude oil transport.
“If Iran does anything that stops the flow of oil within the Strait of Hormuz, they will be hit by the United States of America twenty times harder than they have been hit thus far,” Trump wrote on social media.
The President also warned of wider destruction if Iran tried to block the strategic passage. He said the United States could target facilities that would make it “virtually impossible” for Iran to rebuild as a nation, adding that “death, fire and fury will reign upon them,” while expressing hope that such a scenario would not occur.
Trump said keeping the shipping lanes open would benefit countries that rely heavily on the route for energy supplies.
“This is a gift from the United States of America to China and all the nations that heavily use the Hormuz Strait. Hopefully it will be greatly appreciated,” he said, referring to the strategic importance of the passage for global oil trade.

The warning comes amid escalating tensions in West Asia following the confrontation involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
Earlier, Trump had indicated that the US could take steps to secure the route, including deploying the United States Navy to escort commercial oil tankers through the strait.
The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway between Iran and Oman, carries a significant portion of global crude exports from Gulf countries. Analysts say the ongoing conflict has triggered what could be the largest oil supply shock in modern history, with disruptions affecting nearly 20 million barrels of oil per day passing through the route.
