Trump announces three-day ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia

US, May 9, 2026: US President Donald Trump on Friday announced a three-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine from May 9 to May 11 amid the ongoing war.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the ceasefire would involve a complete suspension of all military activity and include an exchange of 1,000 prisoners from each side.

Both Moscow and Kyiv have previously accused each other of violating ceasefires declared during the conflict.

Expressing hope for peace, Trump said the temporary truce could mark “the beginning of the end” of the prolonged and deadly war, adding that discussions aimed at ending the conflict were making steady progress.
