Trump Administration Drafting Broader Post-War Middle East Strategy

Washington, Sep 6, 2026: The Trump administration is developing a broad strategy for the Middle East that could reshape US policy in the region after the war with Iran, according to a report by Axios.

The emerging plan aims to build a stronger regional alliance to contain Iran, encourage deeper ties between Israel and neighbouring countries, and reduce conflicts that have persisted since the October 7, 2023 attacks.

The strategy could involve Washington acting as a security guarantor for regional allies, advancing the next phase of Trump’s Gaza plan, pursuing a security arrangement between Israel and Syria, and implementing the existing Israel-Lebanon agreement.

A key objective is also to expand the Abraham Accords and secure a normalisation agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia. Such a deal would be a major diplomatic achievement for Trump and could become a centrepiece of his post-war Middle East policy.

Israel Election Could Affect Strategy
Israel is scheduled to hold elections on October 27, followed by US midterm elections in November. Trump’s team hopes the next Israeli government will be willing to cooperate with Washington, though officials are reportedly considering moving ahead even if the election results lead to another political deadlock.

Trump has discussed the emerging strategy in meetings with senior advisers in recent weeks. However, officials caution that the plan remains under development and could take several more weeks to finalise.

The proposed approach seeks to link multiple regional issues into a broader framework for post-war security and political alignment, though it remains uncertain whether all US allies in the region will support the plan.
