
Kalaburagi, July 14, 2026: Three prisoners serving sentences for murder escaped from the Kalaburagi Central Jail in the early hours of Tuesday after allegedly scaling the prison’s compound wall.
The escape took place at around 4 a.m. The fugitives have been identified as Mastan of Islampur in Basavakalyan taluk, Santosh of Santapur village in Aurad taluk, and Sagar of Bakkachowdi village in Bidar taluk.
Police have launched a massive search operation to trace and apprehend the escaped convicts, sources said.
The incident comes a day after Kalaburagi Police Commissioner Sharanappa S.D., along with other senior police officials, visited the central jail to inspect its security arrangements on Monday morning. The jailbreak has raised serious concerns over security at the prison.
