Three Arrested for Gang-Rape of Medical Student in Durgapur

Durgapur, Oct 12, 2025: Police have arrested three persons in connection with the gang-rape of a second-year MBBS student from Odisha near a private medical college in Durgapur, West Bengal. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law pertaining to gang-rape and criminal acts committed with common intent. The identities of the accused have not been disclosed.

The 23-year-old victim, a resident of Jaleswar in Odisha and a student at IQ City Medical College in Durgapur’s Shivapur area, was allegedly attacked on Friday night. According to police, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. when she stepped out for dinner with a male friend. The accused reportedly intercepted them near the college gate, dragged the woman to a nearby wooded area, and assaulted her before fleeing.

West Bengal Police said the victim is recovering and her family is being provided all necessary support. Authorities have urged the public not to circulate unverified information and reaffirmed their zero-tolerance policy toward crimes against women, assuring that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
