Chennai, Aug 19, 2026: The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday withdrew its earlier directive seeking coordinated action to prevent students of government arts and science colleges and youth from participating in protests and agitations.
In an order issued on Tuesday, Joint Director of Collegiate Education Cynthia Selvi P stated that the department’s earlier communication, dated August 17, 2026, regarding the matter had been withdrawn. The order was issued to the principals of all Government Arts and Science Colleges across Tamil Nadu.
Earlier, the education authorities were asked to take steps to ensure that school and college students, as well as young people, do not participate in protests or agitations organised by Left parties and the Tamil Nadu Cockroach Janata Party (CJP).
The direction was issued by the Department of Collegiate Education in an official communication to authorities, calling for a coordinated effort to prevent students and youth from joining such political demonstrations.
