Six killed in head-on collision in Arabail Ghat in Uttara Kannada

Karwar, July 9, 2026: At least six people were killed and three others sustained serious injuries in a head-on collision between a cruiser jeep and a truck in the Arabail Ghat section of Yellapur taluk in Uttara Kannada district in the early hours of Thursday.

The cruiser jeep, which was travelling from Yellapur towards Ankola, collided head-on with the truck, killing six of its occupants on the spot. All the deceased were residents of Dharwad city.

The deceased have been identified as Sanjay Angadi (48), the jeep driver; Basavaraj Kanakammanavar (48); Abhishek Eshwar (28); Akshay (26); Abhishek (26); and Manjunath Chulaki (33).

The injured, identified as Shivaraj Madivalar (22), Naveen (24) and Channappa Kalaghatagi (28), were shifted to a private hospital in Hubballi for treatment, according to Yellapur police.

Police said all nine occupants of the jeep were employed as quick commerce delivery personnel in Dharwad. They were on a pilgrimage trip to religious destinations, including Kollur and Gokarna, when the accident occurred.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is under way.
