Shocker in Gadag: Father carries child in motorcycle’s side luggage box, fined

Gadag, Jun 27, 2026: A father has been fined by the Gadag police after he was caught riding a motorcycle with his young child placed inside the vehicle’s side luggage box, an incident that sparked widespread outrage on social media.

The incident occurred in Gadag town while the man was travelling from Tippu Circle towards the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The toddler had been placed inside the motorcycle’s side luggage box, with only the child’s head visible outside.

Shocked by the sight, passersby photographed the incident and shared the images on social media, where they quickly went viral.

Acting on the viral posts, the Gadag police traced the motorcycle using its registration number and summoned the rider for questioning. During the inquiry, the man reportedly told police that he had transported the child in that manner while returning from the market.

Police reprimanded the father for endangering the child’s safety and imposed a fine. He was also warned against repeating such a dangerous act.

The incident drew sharp criticism from the public, with many pointing out that even a minor mishap could have had tragic consequences. Police said the act amounted to a serious violation of road safety norms and endangered the life of the child.
