Shivamogga: Elderly man dies by suspected suicide using gun

Shivamogga, Jun 1, 2026: An 85-year-old man allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with a gun in Tattekodlu near Nittur in Hosanagara taluk of Shivamogga district.

The deceased has been identified as Ramachandra Rao (85), a resident of Tattekodlu. The incident reportedly took place around 1.30 am on Sunday.

According to preliminary information, Ramachandra Rao used a single-barrel gun and shot himself near the neck. The impact was severe, causing fatal head injuries.

Sources said that three days earlier, Ramachandra Rao had suffered a head injury after a fall and had received treatment at a local hospital. However, he was reportedly experiencing persistent pain. Police suspect that the extreme pain may have driven him to take the drastic step.

The police are investigating whether the firearm was licensed and how the elderly man was able to operate and pull the trigger.

A case has been registered at the Nittur Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
