Several ministers will go to jail if KPSC scam is exposed: Chalavadi Narayanaswamy

Bengaluru, Sep 25, 2026: Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy on Thursday alleged that several ministers could face imprisonment if the alleged KPSC recruitment scam is fully exposed. He demanded that the issue be discussed in the Legislative Council and that the investigation be handed over from the SIT to the CBI.

The remarks triggered a heated exchange in the Council. At the beginning of the session, Narayanaswamy sought permission to discuss the KPSC issue, arguing that a comprehensive debate was necessary.

He said the investigation should be transferred to the CBI if the SIT failed to deliver justice. He also sought clarification on the legal provisions under which the government was considering the closure of the KPSC.

Narayanaswamy urged Council Chairman Saleem Ahmed to clarify whether the issue would be taken up for discussion.

Leader of the House Yathindra Siddaramaiah intervened, stating that the matter was sub judice and therefore could not be discussed in the House. Chairman Saleem Ahmed also declined to take up the BJP members’ demand, pointing out that the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) had not included the KPSC issue in the agenda.

The Chairman said the BAC meeting had focused on the drought situation and a request to extend the session by a day. He indicated that the KPSC issue could be raised when Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar is present in the House.

Objecting to this, Narayanaswamy maintained that not every issue discussed in the House had to be finalised by the BAC. He argued that the KPSC matter was important and that the decision to allow a discussion rested with the Chair.

BJP members supported his demand and sought an opportunity to discuss the KPSC issue after the drought debate was completed.

The Chairman, however, proceeded with the discussion on the drought situation, leading to a brief verbal exchange between Narayanaswamy and the Chair.
