Bengaluru, May 8, 2025: Bengaluru police have arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly killing his 8-year-old neighbour boy and disposing the body near Rayasandra Lake in southeastern Bengaluru.
The deceased has been identified as Ramananda, a school-going boy who lived in Rayasandra.Parappana Agrahara police arrested the suspect, Chandeswar Matur, a security guard at an apartment complex in southeast Bengaluru.
Sara Fathiema, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast), told DH that the suspect lived with his wife and two school-going daughters next to Ramananda’s house. The suspect’s wife worked as a cook.
"Both the suspect and the victim’s family are from the same district in Bihar. They all worked at the same apartment complex and lived in neighbouring houses," Fathiema said.
Ramananda’s father was also employed as a security guard, while his mother worked as a cook.
According to police, Matur said Ramananda often fought with and beat his daughters. Despite repeated warnings, the boy’s behaviour continued. Enraged by the frequent altercations, on Tuesday night, Matur allegedly took Ramananda to the Rayasandra lake bed and smothered him. He then disposed of the body in a sledge and returned home.
Police sources told DH they saw Matur walking with Ramananda the night the boy went missing. After detaining and questioning him, Matur confessed to the crime and led officers to the scene. Following a four-hour operation, police recovered the child’s body from the sledge.
Matur has been booked under BNS section dealing with murder and taken into custody.
