Riyadh, July 20, 2025: Prince Alwaleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, who had been in a coma for nearly 20 years following a car accident in London, passed away on Saturday at the age of 36.

The prince suffered severe brain injuries and internal bleeding in 2005 when he was just 15 years old and studying at a military college in the United Kingdom. The accident left him in a complete coma, and he was later transferred to King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, where he remained on life support under continuous medical care.

Widely known as “The Sleeping Prince,” Prince Alwaleed occasionally drew public attention when video clips showed faint movements such as the lifting of a finger, offering brief glimpses of hope. Despite treatment from international specialists, he never regained consciousness.

Announcing the death, his father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, said in a statement, “With hearts full of faith in Allah’s decree and destiny, and with profound sadness, we mourn our beloved son… may Allah have mercy on him.”

The Global Imams Council also extended its condolences to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the royal family, describing Prince Alwaleed’s passing as the end of a long struggle following the tragic accident.

Throughout the years, Prince Khaled had remained devoted to his son’s care, refusing to remove life support and affirming that only God determines the time of death.

Born in April 1990, Prince Alwaleed was the eldest son of Prince Khaled bin Talal and a nephew of billionaire businessman Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud.

Funeral prayers will be held on Sunday, July 20, after the Asr prayer at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.
