New Delhi, Oct 13, 2026: The Supreme Court on Tuesday deferred till October 15 the hearing on petitions concerning protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on October 10, the closure of metro stations and disruptions to train services, following the indisposition of Justice V. Mohana.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana was scheduled to hear a series of petitions on the matter on Tuesday.

At the outset, the CJI informed the lawyers that Justice Mohana was unwell but had nevertheless joined the proceedings. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta requested an adjournment, stating that health concerns should not be overlooked. Senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan and other lawyers also agreed to the deferment.

Mehta informed the bench that the Centre’s deadline to respond to a contempt plea alleging non-compliance with the Supreme Court’s direction against completely suspending metro and train services ahead of the October 10 protest expired on Tuesday.

"The affidavit is ready. I would like to add something to make it more comprehensive," Mehta told the court.

The bench extended the deadline for filing the affidavit and directed that a copy be provided to the counsel representing the petitioners.
