Record voter turnout in Assam, Puducherry; Kerala sees 78% polling

New Delhi, Apr 10, 2026: Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry on Thursday recorded higher voter turnout compared to the 2021 polls, with the revised and streamlined voters’ list contributing to the increase.

Assam registered its highest-ever turnout in Assembly elections at 85.64%, surpassing the previous record of 84.67% in 2016. In 2021, the state had recorded 82.04% polling.

Kerala reported a turnout of 78.25%, an improvement over the 76% recorded in 2021. Puducherry also saw its highest-ever polling at 89.87%, exceeding its earlier record of 86.19% in 2011.

The final turnout figures are expected to rise further as the Election Commission compiles data from all polling stations.
