Prakash Raj’s name marked shifted in Karnataka voter list amid SIR; election officials clarify

Bengaluru, Aug 12, 2026: Actor Prakash Raj’s name has been marked for deletion in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka. Raj has been marked as “permanently shifted” is in the ASDDO (Absent, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate and Others) list uploaded on the CEO-Karnataka’s website.
However, the an election official clarified that Raj was no longer residing at the address, though he was an active voter from the same (Shantinagar) Assembly constituency as per the voter rolls updated till June 16, 2026.
The 61-year-old actor, a voter in the Shanthinagar Assembly constituency and a former MP candidate from Bengaluru Central (2019) that comprises Shantinagar Assembly segment, posted a video on social media on Tuesday to register protest against his exclusion from the voter list in the constituency he was “raised in”.
Indirectly referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Raj said, “You can use your powers to deny a few citizens who may not elect you, their right to vote. But can you stop us from our power of bringing you down?,” he asked.
Stating the allegations made by the actor in the video as false, Jagadish G, additional district election officer (Bengaluru Central) confirmed Raj was a registered voter (Serial Number 970, Part Number 1) of the 163 Shanthinagar Assembly Constituency.
In a clarification, the election officials said that during the house-to-house verification, the BLO found that Prakash Raj had permanently shifted from the registered address at No. 266, Garden Apartment. The BLO conducted an official inquiry with the neighbours and the property manager and the flat owner also confirmed that the actor is not residing in the above said flat from past four years and presently other tenants are residing.
Based on the statements a mahazar (spot inspection report) was drawn, and the voter status was officially marked as “Shifted” adhering to the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.
“I have spoken to Mr. Prakash Raj, over telephone and he confirms he is not residing at the above said address but residing in Shanthinagar Assembly Constituency at a different address. He could file the Form-6 through the BLO citing the present residing address. The allegations made by the actor are not true,” said the ADEO.
It may be recalled that Raj, on July 11, had appeared before a city court and secured conditional bail after the court had issued a non-bailable warrant against him since he failed to respond to two earlier warrants (issued on April 17 and June 12) in connection with a multiple voter id card case.
A Bengaluru-based advocate Dileep Kumar had alleged Raj possessed four voter id cards, one each in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Andhra, a violation under the Section 31 of the Representation of people’s Act.
