Wayanad, May 13, 2026: Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have come under attack in Kerala’s Wayanad as posters opposing the possible appointment of K. C. Venugopal as chief minister surfaced near the Wayanad District Congress Committee office.
Priyanka Gandhi is currently the MP from Wayanad, while Rahul Gandhi had earlier represented the constituency in Parliament. The posters warned the Gandhi siblings against backing Venugopal for the top post in the state.

One of the posters read, “Mr Rahul and Priyanka, forget Wayanad. You won’t win again from here.” Another stated, “This is not a warning. Kerala will never forgive you for this blunder.” A third poster said, “Mr Rahul, KC might be your bag bearer, but the people of Kerala never forgive you.”
The development comes amid continuing uncertainty over the selection of the next chief minister following the Congress party’s emphatic victory in the recent Kerala Assembly elections.
While Venugopal is considered the front-runner for the chief minister’s post, V. D. Satheesan, Leader of the Opposition in the outgoing Assembly, is also believed to enjoy strong support among party workers and the public. Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala is also in the race, though the contest is now largely seen as being between Venugopal and Satheesan.
Meanwhile, Mallikarjun Kharge has reportedly convened meetings with former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee presidents and senior leaders in Delhi for wider consultations on the CM selection.
Party sources said Kharge and Rahul Gandhi are expected to hold further discussions to arrive at a final decision, with Priyanka Gandhi also playing a significant role in the deliberations. The Congress high command is reportedly waiting for tensions in Kerala to subside after recent demonstrations and poster campaigns by supporters of both Satheesan and Venugopal.
