Singur, Jan 18, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday asserted that only the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is genuinely committed to the welfare of West Bengal and said the people of the state would put an end to the Trinamool Congress’ (TMC) 15 years of what he described as “Maha Jungle Raj.”

Addressing a public meeting in Singur, the Prime Minister said the large turnout reflected a unified demand for “asli parivartan” (real change) and a strong resolve to end misgovernance in the state. He said people from all sections of society had come together with the hope of ushering in development.

Highlighting steps taken under the BJP-led government at the Centre, Mr. Modi said Bengali was accorded the status of a regional language, Durga Puja was recognised by UNESCO, and a statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was installed on Kartavya Path in New Delhi. He questioned why such initiatives were not undertaken when the TMC was part of the Congress-led UPA government.

The Prime Minister said his priority was the welfare of West Bengal’s youth, farmers, mothers and sisters, and alleged that the TMC’s political hostility towards the BJP was adversely affecting the interests of the state’s people.

Accusing the state government of non-cooperation, he said fishermen in West Bengal were being deprived of benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana and alleged that children were being denied quality education in schools.

Stating that the TMC government should be held accountable for acting against the interests of the people, Mr. Modi said West Bengal needs a “double-engine” BJP government at the Centre and in the state to put it on the path of development.
