
Patna, Apr 14, 2026: BJP leader Samrat Choudhary is set to become the Chief Minister of Bihar after Nitish Kumar announced on Tuesday that he has submitted his resignation to Governor Syed Ata Hasnain.
Nitish Kumar, the longest-serving Chief Minister of Bihar, shared the announcement on X following his meeting with the governor at Lok Bhavan.
He arrived at Lok Bhavan accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, JD(U) national working president Sanjay Jha, and state minister Vijay Choudhary, where he formally handed over his resignation.
“I have done a lot of work for the people of Bihar. Recently, I decided to step down from the post of Chief Minister. After today’s cabinet meeting, I met the governor and submitted my resignation,” Kumar said.
The 75-year-old JD(U) leader was elected to the Rajya Sabha last week.
“Now, the new government will take forward the work in Bihar. It will have my full cooperation and guidance,” he added in his social media post.
