
Ferozepur, Jun 6, 2026: Nine people were killed and several others injured when a pick-up vehicle carrying a group of pilgrims collided with a truck near Janga Wala Mour on the Ferozepur–Fazilka road on Saturday.
According to police, 32 people, including women and children, were travelling from Jalalabad to Beas in Amritsar to immerse the ashes of a deceased relative in the Beas River when the accident occurred.
Several passengers died on the spot, while the injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Ferozepur for treatment.
Senior Medical Officer Dr. Nikhil Gupta said that critically injured victims had been referred to Guru Gobind Singh Government Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot for advanced medical care.
Ferozepur Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh, along with other senior officials, visited the accident site. Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision.
Among the survivors was 12-year-old Anshpreet Singh, who sustained minor injuries. He said the family had begun their journey at around 3.30 a.m. to immerse the ashes of his grandmother, Pooro Bai (62).
“We started early in the morning and everything was normal. We even stopped to refuel. As soon as we reached near Janga Wala Mour, the accident happened,” Anshpreet said.
The deceased were identified as Karnail Singh, Lakshmi Rani, Sukhwinder Kaur, Bhago Rani, Maya Bai, Surinder Singh, Raj Kumar, Darshan Singh and Vidya Rani.
