Here are the top developments in Nepal’s Gen Z protests

Kathmandu airport shut down

All flights at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu were cancelled, citing unprecedented, serious circumstances and security concerns.  Tribhuvan International Airport was shut down amid rumours of senior ministers, including the PM, planning to flee the country. All-party meeting

Earlier in the morning Oli called for an all-party meeting at 6 pm local time on Tuesday, and urged the protesters to resume calm amid the unrest amid anti-government protests in the country, following a social media ban. Nepal PM KP Sharma Oli said, “I am in dialogue with the relevant parties to assess the situation and find a meaningful conclusion. For that, I have also called an all-party meeting at 6 pm today. I humbly request all brothers and sisters to remain calm in this difficult situation,” as quoted by The Kathmandu Post.

Second day of protest

Protesters took to the streets on Tuesday in parts of Nepal, defying the curfew, prompted by the anti-government agitations against social media ban in the country. People were seen defying curbs on public gatherings, as demonstrators demanded resignation of PM  Oli. Demonstrations were reported from Kalanki and Baneshwor in Kathmandu, as well as the Chapagaun-Thecho area of Lalitpur district. Protesters, mostly students, chanted slogans such as “Don’t kill students”, defying the restrictions on public gatherings. This comes just hours after Nepal government imposed a curfew in Kathmandu and other cities after multiple protests turned violent. Protestors were also seen pelting stones at the residence of Communication Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung in Sunakothi at Lalitpur district.

19 Casualties so far

At least 19 people were killed and over 200 people were injured during ‘Gen Z’ protests across Kathmandu and other parts of Nepal triggered by a social media ban. The ban was lifted by the government late last night.
