Mysuru, Nov 2, 2026: Amid the recent hike in milk and curd prices in Karnataka, the Prajnavanta Nagarika Vedike (Conscious Citizens Forum) of Mysuru has come up with a unique way of drawing public attention to the rising cost of essential commodities. Its president, Kadakola Jagadish, gifted milk and curd to a newly married couple as a symbolic wedding present.
The novel awareness initiative was organised during the wedding ceremony of Manju and Ananya, residents of Kadakola, held at Sri Kalibeereshwara Kalyana Mantapa in Kadakola.
By presenting milk and curd as wedding gifts, Jagadish sought to highlight how these everyday essentials have become increasingly expensive, placing an additional financial burden on poor and middle-class families.
He pointed out that milk and curd are not merely food items but an integral part of the daily lives of ordinary households. He urged the government to take the impact of rising prices seriously and introduce appropriate measures to ensure that essential commodities remain affordable.
Along with extending his best wishes to the newlyweds, Jagadish said the unusual gift would remain a memorable one for the couple while also serving as a reminder of the financial difficulties faced by common people due to price hikes.
Youth leader Jogi Manju, former corporator Jagadish, Rajanna and several others were present on the occasion and extended their wishes to the newly married couple.
Revised milk prices effective from November 1
The revised milk prices, approved at a recent Karnataka Cabinet meeting, came into effect on November 1. The price of milk has been increased to Rs 54 per litre.
Speaking to the media after the Cabinet meeting on October 29, Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said the state was facing severe drought conditions, with 226 taluks declared drought-hit.
He cited the impact of the El Niño phenomenon, crop losses, drinking water shortages and declining water levels in reservoirs as major challenges facing the state.
He said it was the government’s responsibility to support farmers during difficult times, adding that income from milk production provided a measure of stability in the otherwise uncertain lives of farmers.
According to the minister, milk unions and farmers had been demanding a revision of milk prices, with pressure for an increase coming from various quarters, cutting across party lines.
