
Vijayapura, Aug 26, 2026: A 35-year-old woman and her five children, who had been missing for the past two days, were found drowned in a lake on the outskirts of Vijayapura on Wednesday, in a tragic incident that has shocked the district.
The bodies of Shobha Jalageri (35) and her children — Vidya (15), Suvarna (13), Tipparaya (12), Sanika (10) and Vikas (6) — were recovered from Bhutnal lake, which comes under the Adarshanagar Police Station limits.
According to the police, a missing persons’ case was registered at Vijayapura Rural Police Station on August 24 after Shobha’s husband, Mallikarjun Jalageri of Toravi Shanti Nagar, lodged a complaint. He told the police that his had left home with their children after a domestic dispute in which he had counselled her over family matters.
During the investigation, the police traced the family to Bhutnal lake, where all six bodies were found submerged in the water.
The bodies were then recovered sent to BLDE Hospital in Vijayapura for post-mortem examination.
A detailed investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the deaths. The police are probing all possible angles, including whether the incident was a case of suicide, according to officials.
