Kodagu, April 5, 2026: In a dramatic end to a four-day search operation, Sharanya, a native of Nadapuram in Kozhikode, was found safe in a forest area of Kodagu on Sunday evening.

The Kochi-based IT professional had gone trekking to Tadiandamol, the highest peak in Kodagu, after staying at a homestay in Yavakapadi village on April 2. Despite advisories from forest officials to trek in groups due to the presence of wild elephants, she reportedly got separated from her team and went missing.

While other members of the group returned safely, Sharanya could not be traced. She had initially informed homestay staff that she had lost her way, but subsequently lost mobile network connectivity, triggering a massive search operation.

Personnel from the police, forest department, anti-Naxal forces, and local residents conducted an extensive search using drones and sniffer dogs across dense forest terrain. After continuous efforts, she was finally located on Sunday.

Eshwar Khandre, Karnataka Forest Minister, confirmed that she had been found safe. Around 100 personnel were deployed as part of the rescue mission.

Local tribal communities played a crucial role in tracing her in the difficult terrain, situated at an altitude of about 1,748 metres and known for its wildlife presence. The governments of Kerala and Karnataka coordinated closely during the operation, with Pinarayi Vijayan speaking to Siddaramaiah to expedite rescue efforts. Congress leader K. C. Venugopal also remained in touch with authorities.

Sharanya’s family expressed immense relief upon hearing the news. She has been shifted to a safe location and provided preliminary medical care. Officials said she will be brought home after further evaluation.
