Man pours acid on wife, attacks her with machete after argument in Bengaluru, woman critical

Bengaluru, Sep 17, 2026: A 26-year-old nurse was critically injured after her husband allegedly attacked her with acid and a machete following an argument near a private clinic in JP Nagar on Thursday morning.

The incident took place in broad daylight and was witnessed by several people in the area.

The victim, identified as Madhumita, works as a nurse at the clinic. She and Venkatesan had married around two years ago. Madhumita is from Kolkata, while Venkatesan is from Tamil Nadu.

According to preliminary information, Madhumita had stepped out of the clinic after breakfast when Venkatesan arrived on a motorcycle. He reportedly followed her and confronted her in the clinic’s parking area.

An argument reportedly broke out between the couple, following which Venkatesan allegedly attacked her with acid and a machete.

The incident triggered panic among passersby. Several people attempted to intervene, but the accused was allegedly carrying the machete, making it difficult for them to approach him.

Some witnesses recorded the incident on their mobile phones and alerted the police. Hoysala police personnel reached the spot and arrested the accused.

Madhumita suffered serious injuries and was immediately shifted to a hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. Her condition is reported to be critical.

The JP Nagar police have registered a case of attempted murder and are conducting further investigations.
