Thiruvananthapuram, April 19, 2025: For 48-year-old C D Jomon, a teacher hailing from Kottayam district in Kerala, this Easter is a real resurrection as his innocence in a rape case has been proved not only before court but also at a church.

It was in 2017 that one of his students filed sexual assault complaint against Jomon who was running a paramedical and nursing institute at Kuruppanthara in Kottayam. The girl, who was then 21, alleged that Jomon sexually assaulted her twice. Jomon was arrested by the police and put in jail for one month until he got bail.

fake rape case

Recently the complainant girl turned up before the court and confessed that it was a fake allegation she made under the influence of some rivals of Jomon. She also tendered an apology to Jomon during a mass at his local church.

"My life was shattered and I was facing isolation in the society. No one, except my wife, believed in my innocence. Eight years of my life was spoiled. Hence the girl’s confession is indeed a new lease of life for me, " Jomon, a native of Ayamkudi village, told DH.

After the allegation came up Jomon had to even shut his institute which had around 40 students. He had to take up casual jobs to eke out a living for his family comprising wife and two school-going children.

A few months back the girl, who is hailing from Kochi, came across the pitiable condition of Jomon. Subsequently she turned up before court in January and made the confession that the allegation was baseless and she was forced by someone else to make the allegation. The case was closed in the due course.

She later expressed her wish to meet her former teacher and tender an apology. Hence Jomon suggested that since her fake allegation caused much insult to him in the society she may tender a public apology. The girl obliged and turned up at the church and tendered an apology to Jomon and his family.

Asked if he was not taking any legal action against those who raised the baseless allegation, Jomon said : "I myself had suffered the hardships of being in jail and going through the case. Hence I don’t want anyone else to go through such sufferings."
