Karnataka man kills wife over loan dispute, buries body in house compound

Vijayapura, Feb 19, 2026: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly killed his wife and buried her inside their house compound in Devarahipparagi town of Vijayapura district in Karnataka, with the crime coming to light 24 days later.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Sarojini Ratnakar (45), while the accused as Prabhu Ratnakar (46).

Prabhu had allegedly taken loans in Sarojini’s name, which often led to disputes between the couple. On the night of January 23, the two were reportedly involved in a heated argument. The following day, January 24, Prabhu allegedly killed Sarojini by hitting her on the head with an iron rod.

Later, he is said to have buried her body within the house premises and fabricated a story claiming that she had left home and not returned. He even lodged a missing complaint at the Devarahipparagi police station and joined her parental family in the search for her.

During the course of the investigation, the police grew suspicious of Prabhu and summoned him for questioning. During sustained interrogation, he reportedly confessed, leading to the revelation of the truth behind the case.

Police later exhumed the body following due legal procedure. After conducting the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family.

Following a complaint lodged by Sarojini’s mother, a case has been registered against Prabhu. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
