Bengaluru, Sep 23, 2025: Former minister and Chikkaballapur BJP MP Dr. K. Sudhakar’s wife, Dr. Preeti, lost Rs 14 lakh after cyber fraudsters threatened her with digital arrest. The incident took place on August 26 and was reported to the West Division cyber police.

According to police, an unknown caller posing as a Mumbai cyber crime officer told Dr. Preeti that a man named Sadbhath Khan had used her ID to create a credit card and was caught sending people abroad for illegal activities. To make the story convincing, the fraudsters even sent her a photo of a man under arrest.

Later, through a WhatsApp video call, the gang posed as cyber crime officials and claimed that her money and bank accounts were illegal. They told her that the money had to be sent to the RBI for verification and would be returned within 45 minutes. Believing this, she transferred Rs 14 lakh through RTGS to the account given by the fraudsters.

Soon after realizing she was cheated, Dr. Preeti rushed to the West Division cyber police station and also filed a complaint on the cyber helpline 1930. Since she reported the case within the “golden hour” (just hours after the fraud), police managed to trace and freeze the fraudsters’ bank account. After court approval, the money was successfully returned to her.
