New Delhi, June 10, 2015: The Delhi government, headed by Arvind Kejriwal, today appointed Kapil Mishra as Delhi’s new Law Minister. The decision comes a day after the arrest and subsequent resignation of Jitender Singh Tomar as the law minister in connection with an alleged fake degree case.

Mishra is an AAP MLA representing Karawal Nagar, a constituency in northeast Delhi. He is also the vice chairman of the Delhi Jal Board, the municipal body that supplies piped water in the city.

Mishra will also be taking additional charge of the tourism portfolio.

A social worker and “public policy campaigner”, Mishra has worked with international organisations such as Greenpeace and Amnesty International. During the Delhi elections, his entire campaign in Karawal Nagar was based on the issue of lack of sewers and cleanliness in the area.
