Kannada Rajyothsava mandatory in schools despite Sunday holiday

Bengaluru, Oct 29, 2026: The School Education and Literacy Department has directed all schools, including private unaided, in the state to mandatorily celebrate Kannada Rajyothsava on November 1.

In a circular, the department has stated that the schools must compulsorily celebrate Rajyothsava which has raised objections as well as led to confusions among school authorities as the event falls on Sunday.

"None of the parents will be willing to send their children on Sunday and even for teachers it is a holiday they are getting after five-month-long SIR work," said a headmaster of a government school in Bengaluru.
