Tehran/Dubai, March 1, 2026: Iran launched a fresh wave of missile and drone attacks on Israel and US military bases in the Middle East, hours after vowing revenge for the killing of its Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

According to media reports, loud explosions were heard in Dubai and over Qatar’s capital, Doha, as Iranian forces carried out the strikes. The United Arab Emirates and Qatar, both key US allies in the region, appeared to be among the targets, with Tehran reportedly seeking to warn neighbouring countries against siding with its adversaries.

Iran is reported to have targeted Dubai International Airport, one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs, leading to the suspension of operations. Earlier strikes allegedly hit the Palm Jumeirah — Dubai’s iconic man-made island — and the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab. There was no immediate official confirmation on the extent of damage or casualties.

The escalation follows coordinated airstrikes by the United States and Israel across Iran under an operation named Operation Epic Fury. The strikes reportedly targeted key installations in several major cities, including Tehran, after stalled nuclear negotiations and claims that Iran had resumed sensitive nuclear activities.

Khamenei, who had led Iran since 1989, was killed in the air raids, marking a dramatic turn in regional tensions. In a strongly worded statement posted on Telegram, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) vowed severe retaliation, calling the attack a “murder” and promising the “most ferocious offensive operation in history” against the US and Israel. The IRGC declared that the “hand of revenge of the Iranian nation” would not relent.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, warning of “grave consequences” for global security. The European Union and Russia also urged all sides to de-escalate and prevent further deterioration of the situation.
