India thrash Sri Lanka by 72 runs to win record eighth Women’s Asia Cup title

Dubai, Sep 13, 2026: Harmanpreet Kaur-led India defeated defending champions Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday to clinch a record-extending eighth title.

Batting first, India posted 183 runs, powered by half-centuries from Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, who shared a record 129-run opening partnership.

India’s bowlers then produced a dominant performance to dismiss Sri Lanka for 111. Shree Charani claimed four wickets, while Deepti Sharma took three. Kranti Gaud, Shafali Verma and Prema Rawat picked up one wicket each.

Both teams had entered the final unbeaten after topping their respective groups. India had also registered a record win over Pakistan during the tournament, while Sri Lanka edged past Pakistan in the semi-final.

The victory extended India’s dominance over Sri Lanka to 26 wins in 31 matches. India have now won eight titles in nine Asia Cup final appearances, making them the most successful team in the tournament’s history.
