India logs 39,097 new Covid-19 cases, 546 deaths; active cases at 4.08 lakh

New Delhi, Jul 24, 2021: India has recorded 39,097 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry data. The overall case tally now stands at 3,13,32,159.

The top five states which have registered maximum cases are Kerala with 17,518 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 6,753 cases, Odisha with 1,917 cases, Tamil Nadu with 1,830 cases and Andhra Pradesh with 1,747 cases. These five states contribute 76.13 per cent of the new cases, with Kerala alone responsible for 44.81 per cent.

With 546 new fatalities, India’s Covid-19 death toll climbed to 4,20,016. Maximum casualties were reported in Maharashtra (167), followed by Kerala with 132 daily deaths.

According to health ministry data on Saturday morning, at least 35,087 people recovered from the virus, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,05,03,166.

The tally of active Covid-19 cases in the country saw an increase of 3,464 cases in the last 24 hours and now stands at 4,08,977. The active cases constitute 1.31 per cent of the total cases, the health ministry data said.

The weekly positivity rate remained below five per cent, and currently stands at 2.22 per cent. Daily positivity rate at 2.40 per cent, less than 3 per cent for 33 consecutive days, the health ministry data said.India has administered a total of 42,67,799 doses in the last 24 hours, which brings the total tally of doses administered to 42,78,82,261, the data showed.
