New Delhi, Oct 30, 2026: The I.N.D.I.A. bloc on Friday said it has postponed the "public impeachment" of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar at the residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to Saturday citing inclement weather.

"By consensus we have decided to postpone today’s programme to tomorrow at the same time," Gandhi said at a joint press conference with INDIA bloc leaders outside Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge’s 10, Rajaji Marg residence here.

Gandhi said a "Chalo Dilli" march and rally will be held on Sunday.

"Both programmes are about the demolition of democracy by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and his crew," the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha alleged.

Gandhi also alleged that the Home minister is trying his best to stop people from coming into Delhi.

"Our party people and common people are being stopped. You watch what happens at Ramlila Maidan and you will understand what is happening in the country. There is huge anger and pain because millions are being disenfranchised," he said.

The "public impeachment" is part of its protest seeking the ouster of CEC Kumar over the allegations of irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in several states.

Former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar was expected to chair the proceedings, Kharge to move the "motion" and Rahul Gandhi to make the concluding remarks.

Invites were sent to I.N.D.I.A. bloc MPs for "The Public Impeachment of Gyanesh Kumar" at 10, Rajaji Marg.

Leaders of the Opposition alliance had met on Thursday to give the final shape to the "public impeachment" proceedings, which was set to be held from 3.30 pm on Friday onwards at Kharge’s residence in New Delhi as a symbolic protest over the "vote chori" issue.

Congress general secretaries Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Jairam Ramesh and K C Venugopal, senior Congress leader Meira Kumar, TMC’s Derek O’Brien, Samajwadi Party’s Harendra Malik, JMM’s Mahua Maji and CPI(M)’s John Brittas, among others, participated in the preparatory meeting on Thursday.

Besides Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, one person from each party is likely to speak at the "public impeachment" of the CEC.

"The CEC has demonstrably violated the letter and spirit of the Constitution. He has systematically subverted the very foundations of our electoral democracy. He has, to put it bluntly, lied to the Supreme Court," Ramesh had said earlier this week.

"He has been the willing executioner on behalf of the Diabolical Duo whose turn will come next," he said, in an apparent attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

The Congress on Tuesday claimed it was denied permission to hold the "public impeachment" of the CEC and accused the government of trying to silence the voice of common people after "destroying" the electoral system.

After the public impeachment, a ’Chalo Dilli March’ against "vote chori" will be held on Sunday, culminating at Ramlila Maidan. A rally will be held there.

Rahul Gandhi on Thursday urged people, including student groups irrespective of their political affiliations, to join the opposition I.N.D.I.A. bloc’s ’Chalo Dilli’ march at Ramlila Maidan on November 1, describing it as a protest to "save democracy, end alleged "vote theft" and protect the Constitution.
