Bengaluru, December 27, 2025: Bengaluru police have arrested a 25-year-old male nurse for allegedly murdering his colleague and lover, who was 14 years older than him, in southern Bengaluru.

The incident was reported from Pragathipura in Kumaraswamy Layout on December 23. The accused was taken into custody shortly after the crime came to light.

Murder

The victim, Mamatha, a native of Hiriyur in Chitradurga district, was residing in the area with a female colleague. She was in a relationship with the accused, C Sudhakar (25), who, like her, worked at Jayadeva Hospital. According to police, the relationship turned strained after Sudhakar recently got engaged to another woman, leading to frequent arguments.

On Tuesday afternoon, when Sudhakar visited Mamatha, she reportedly insisted that he marry her, triggering a heated altercation. In a fit of rage, he allegedly picked up a kitchen knife and slit her throat, killing her on the spot, a senior police officer said.

In an attempt to mislead investigators and make the crime appear as a case of murder for gain, the accused allegedly took away Mamatha’s gold chain before fleeing. Police said a broken piece of the chain was recovered from the scene.

The murder remained undiscovered until the following evening, when Mamatha’s family members, unable to reach her by phone, asked the landlord to check on her. Using a spare key, the landlord entered the house and found her lying in a pool of blood in the bedroom, following which he alerted the police.

The body has been shifted for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway. Based on a complaint filed by her brother, Shankar, police have registered a case of murder.
