FIR against Mamata Banerjee, TMCP organisers over alleged violation of HC order

Kolkata, Aug 29, 2026: An FIR has been registered against former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and organisers of the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) over alleged violation of a Calcutta High Court order during the student wing’s foundation day rally in Kolkata on August 28.

The case was registered at Hastings Police Station under Sections 61(2), 223, 125(a), 132 and 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on a complaint filed by Sub-Inspector Apu Baidya.

According to the complaint, the High Court had permitted the TMCP foundation day programme on one flank of Cathedral Road. However, police alleged that TMC workers and supporters also occupied the other flank, obstructing vehicular movement.

The complaint further alleged that the crowd pushed aside police barricades and jostled with personnel deployed to maintain law and order, resulting in a chaotic situation on Cathedral Road. Police also claimed that the programme continued beyond the time permitted by the High Court.

The FIR alleges that Mamata Banerjee and TMCP organisers entered into a “criminal conspiracy” and provoked supporters during the programme.

Hundreds of TMC workers had gathered at Cathedral Road for the foundation day event, where Mamata Banerjee addressed the gathering.

The case has been registered as Hastings Police Station Case No. 112 dated August 28, 2026. The allegations made in the FIR are yet to be established in court.
