Davanagere, Feb 4, 2026: In a shocking incident, a 68-year-old man was allegedly killed by his elder brother following a property dispute in a farm field near Mayakonda taluk on Monday night.

The deceased has been identified as Neelappa, a resident of the village. He was reportedly attacked by his elder brother, Poojar Chandrappa, with whom he had a long-standing dispute over ancestral property. Although the land dispute case is still pending in court, Chandrappa was allegedly preventing Neelappa from carrying out farming activities on the disputed land.

Deadbody

According to police, the incident occurred when Neelappa went to the farm to graze his cows. An argument broke out between the brothers, which soon escalated into a violent confrontation. Chandrappa allegedly assaulted Neelappa on the head with a sharp weapon, causing him to collapse.

Neelappa was rushed to the Mayakonda Primary Health Centre by his son Rakesh and friends. He was later shifted to the Davangere District General Hospital for further treatment, where doctors declared him dead.

A case has been registered at the Mayakonda police station, and Chandrappa has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased staged a protest in front of the police station on Tuesday, alleging that the police had registered a case only against Chandrappa despite a complaint being filed against four members of his family, including the accused. The protesters demanded the arrest of the remaining three persons named in the complaint.
