Delhi police stop Kejriwal’s march to PM’s residence over E20 Petrol

New Delhi, Aug 4, 2026: Delhi Police on Tuesday stopped Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and other party leaders from marching to the Prime Minister’s residence to submit over 2.30 lakh petitions opposing E20 petrol. The party leaders later staged a sit-in protest on Firoz Shah Road.

Kejriwal, accompanied by former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, AAP leader Jasmine Shah and other party members, sat on the road after police prevented the group of around 100 participants from proceeding further.

The AAP said it had collected more than 2.30 lakh signatures from people across the country against the government’s promotion of E20 ethanol-blended petrol, alleging that the fuel is adversely affecting vehicle owners.

Addressing supporters before the march, Kejriwal urged the Centre to heed the concerns of millions of motorists.

"We are going to the Prime Minister’s residence with over 2.30 lakh petitions signed by people from across the country. We want the government to listen to the concerns of crores of vehicle owners who are facing problems because of E20 petrol," he said.

According to a Delhi Police source, no protesters were allowed beyond 5, Firoz Shah Road, where security personnel, including Delhi Police and paramilitary forces, were deployed to maintain law and order.

The protest comes days after the AAP organised an "Ethanol Town Hall" and launched a nationwide signature campaign against E20 fuel.

Kejriwal had earlier written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking an appointment to discuss concerns over ethanol-blended petrol. He also demanded that consumers be given the option to choose between pure petrol and E20 fuel at petrol pumps.

The AAP leader alleged that the government was continuing to promote E20 despite complaints from vehicle owners, and called for E20 fuel to be sold at a lower price if its use is being encouraged.
